When everyone came back it didn't suggest that people wouldn't recall what happened because you see everyone react to being alive. Now imagine being on the way to work to see yourself desolve into sand to wake up with memories of it but no idea of what happened or why. UNIT isn't letting that cat out the bag. I'm afraid this was a terrible episode. The resolution to Ruby's mother was stupid after all the hints throughout the series. It appears when RTD is stuck with the script he either doesn't resolve the plot or he just makes something appear out of thin air such as the memory Tardis. Why does someone pointing at a road sign mean that she chose the name ? Nobody was there to watch her point so it was irrelevant.

I think suthekh couldnt get away from the tardis. Because he was using the tardis to spread the death wave across space and time. Some of his susans were in the far future, some in the past. He needed his conection to them. Aslo the tardis was his trophy and throne

Yeah… Ruby’s mum doesn’t seem like the big black cloak wearing type, LOL. The big reset is always crappy when there isn’t a price for it. While I think Ruby finding her bio fam is lovely, I thought that because of the “death to death” idea, maybe Ruby’s mum would be the only human that stayed dead because Suteck never found her… I feel like that would’ve given some repercussion, resolved the mystery and been bittersweet in the way that some of the best old episodes can be - like Donna gets to live but she can never remember her Tardis adventures… The Doctor saving the universe and Ruby discovers her mum, but her mum is the only human to pay the price for Sutekh’s return and all their adventures seems fitting (if sad). But then Ruby wouldn’t have a reason to stay behind on earth I guess…

I think they explained the snow because the memory was so powerful it slipped through time or something to do with the time window and I believe the same for the song

The finale was disappointing Mrs flood reminds me of two people Romana and that time lord in terror of the autons when he arrived in the sky with his umbrella to warn jon Pertwee about the master.

Maybe the reason we're not connecting to these characters is because we're only getting EIGHT $^%&ING EPISODES per season!

Why wasnt rubys mum not bothered by the tardis taking off?

The whole point about destroying death is undoing all of his damage. It's also a vert Eastern Orthodox thing - but basically two negatives equal a positive. If Sutekh is destroyed then all he unleashed is undone. This worked much better than some of the many other everybody lives ends in Doctor Who because it is how it logically must be. It is not forced at all.

I very much became invested in Ruby as a companion in this season, but I can understand if not everyone felt as invested in her. I feel as though she will grow on people with rewatches. Like for me the first time I watched series 3 I just did not connect with Martha, but over time and with several rewatches I love her and think she is such a badass. I feel like Ruby will be like that for some people.

The funny thing is Sutekh was sent forward to the time of his death back in the time of the 3rd doctor. He may have thought he was waiting and growing stronger, but he was actually just being sent to his doom at the hands of the 15th doctor. Another thing that comes to mind though. Did Sutekh get duplicated when 14&15 split the TARDIS into 2?

Ruby’s mother reveal was 100% the right call. Nothing that RTD could have come up with would have fulfilled people’s expectations.

Gotta say...this was a letdown to me. A long build up, a massive check written with minimal payoff. I still dig Gatwa as the Doctor and this season had some memorable stories. And there are still lingering mysteries...

Ruby's mother being some random person was unforgivable to me. We believed she was important because the writers literally told us she was. To then say "nah, she was only important because you thought she was" was pretty condescending. And Rubys vague superhuman snow/music powers make no sense now.

So sutkech has waited since 1975 to come back now!!. And is taken down in the most ludicrous way ever. So many plot holes with that plot alone. And RTD builds up the whole series about Ruby's mum and in the end she but nothing but just a normal human mum, so all build up zero payoff lol and sutkech was interested because why? really what, RTD has lost and needs to go, unfortunately we have another year of this dirge. What an absolute awful finale. There are no ups on this none. I have barely read anything than can justly this BS, so many many hated this. Ellie needs a someone to explain what she saw was inexcusable 100% down, Up is that this crap is over

Still feel gipped that we only got 9* episodes, not EVEN 10, or 13, or 26-like older USA season lengths--- cross pond media consolidation (Disney+/BBC, NBC/Universal, Paramount+ with well ???) sucks...*under Disney+ a Xmas special was shoe horned into a episode #1?...cheap and lazy, so really only 8 episodes..........soooo, how many episodes slotted and being filmed for season 2, aside from a hoped for Xmas/NYE special?

I'm over fifty and thought I was past being massively surprised by the shows I still enjoy. This season Russell has proven me wrong, from the surprise and delight in bringing back Sutekh, to having played nearly as long a game as Sutekh by having another use for the "memory" TARDIS outside of those shorts we got last year. It just goes to show what a show can do when steered by someone with a distinct vision and love for the series.

The only real down related to Ruby's Mother stuff is the pointing at the sign when no one was around. Everything else is 10/10: No one "special", no "you abandoned me" nonsense, the understanding why a 15y/o would abandon a baby and not being shitty about it, and then having an accepting "found" family situation. Taking the bad doggo for a walk was sufficiently silly in a fun way so that is an absolute up. Everything to do with Mrs Flood is a down bc what a waste of screen time I guess.

Interesting the answer to "the point" was not addressed. It was a really disappointing explanation for me because why would a sad 15 year old girl who's just been through such trauma do this ridiculously dramatic point just afterwards.

The matter of Ruby's biological mother must have been "inspired" by that Douglas Adams-esque idea that "impossibilities are sometimes obliged, out of necessity, to bring themselves into existence". (or something similar) I can't recall whether it was in Hitch Hiker or something else, but it was half-profound and half-joking in that case. It's like the idea that "God will provide" (although God can be a touch parsimonious when he does provide).

i think if cherry had stayed dead, or ruby's birth mother it would have hit really hard, with cherry it would just be a really likeable character who done no wrong getting a punishment they dont deserve, and for ruby's birth mother it would have hit hard specifically for ruby because it would twist the knife further that she would get no confirmation of her mother, or if they were to still get the dna sample to work they find out she had stayed dead

So the god of death whom had latched themself to the tardis for however many years going through the time vortex and can also tear through it, Simply dies in the time vortex cause the doctor cuts a rope holding him to the inside of the tardis? This same god was also so interested into knowing who one random girls mother was because? Why? And also have this entire series make a massive point about who’s Ruby’s mother and the power of her trying to remember literally makes it snow wherever they are and yet it turns out the mum is just like everybody else, so whys it snowing? For what it’s worth I did enjoy this season, I think Ncuti Gatwa is a great doctor and there has been a lot of great ideas explored, there’s just been nothing fulfilling in my opinion like I feel like I’ve gone out for a meal and just had a starter and a pudding, I actually feel like it needed another few episodes to just try and give it more substance I also don’t like when praise is given for bad writing, like don’t make it on us thinking a character is important or the idea of a character is in important especially important enough to make a whole mystery about a character for that to simply be nothing. Anyway rant over

Ruby's mother being no one, because it's counter to previous Doctor Who... But this is "Season 1" and the show is supposed to bring in new viewers... why hit us with the meta-fakeout when you need your new audience to be engaged? I mean, if I were a new viewer, I'd have no interest in Mrs Flood because the show just told me not to invest in mysteries... RTD, wtf? I don't care about lore breaking but this is meta commentary that sorta leaves the fourth wall obliterated

I feel like you were too easy on this episode i had like 15-20 downs personally i thought it was the worst in the season. The more you think about it the less it makes sense fr how did time change from rubys mom not pointing to her pointing and then the snow like u said. It actually makes zero sense. I thought this was worse than flux way to fast i was right last week that they should have had real action in the part 1 instead of shoving all the action and resolution into one ep. Just didnt work at all.

The whole point of having Ruby’s mom being an ordinary person is that ordinary people can make a big difference

The robot should have stayed destroyed at least. It wasn't turned to dust, it, somehow, had it's head removed. Reversing the dust would not have suddenly fixed his head. Oh and what about all the other mishaps that would have taken place? Planes crashing at the very LEAST with pilots being "dusted"

I love the idea of the Pantheon, but the execution has been subpar. And the Ruby storyline turned out to be a big disappointment. Honestly, I wish RTD could just provide consulting services and let someone better suited do the writing.

Too few episodes a season unfortunately to build up the relationship between The Doctor and Ruby. The solution? MORE EPISODES A SEASON!

I wonder if by chance some of the deceased companions were revived off screen without undermining the original episode/death?

One subtle little detail I loved: all the animal noises Sutekh made were African species. I heard a lion, a baboon, a mandrill, and a leopard. I'm sure there were more. In this era, we not only have the first African born Doctor, we get the resurrection of an African themed villain too (or as The Doctor said: culturally appropriated).
